Medieval Chivalry Meets Old School Gaming
We transform the rich traditions of medieval chivalry into practical game mechanics for Dolmenwood and other realms of the OSR. From sworn service to noble houses and monster-slaying quests to the complex customs that govern knightly conduct, we explore how the full spectrum of the knight-life can create compelling adventures and meaningful player choices. Here you’ll find tools to make knighthood matter—not just as a character class, but as a complete way of life that drives the stories worth telling.
The Authors

Malcolm Wolter
Malcolm has harbored a fascination with knights ever since he begged his mother to buy the LP album of Walt Disney’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks, captivated by the dancing suits of armor on the cover. He started playing Dungeons & Dragons in the early 80s with the Moldvay Basic set, and his favorite characters have always been knights and paladins.
He briefly published Herald of Doom, a ‘zine dedicated to the Elric! role-playing game, in the mid-90s—copies of which are apparently somewhat sought-after as collector’s items on eBay. His game industry credits include production and graphic design for multiple source books for Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu and the Elric! RPG. He worked closely for seven years with the late, great Greg Stafford and the likewise late and great Stewart Wieck on the 5th Edition ofKing Arthur Pendragon, serving as line developer and producing all titles in The Book of... series. More recently, Malcolm was a contributor on Pendragon 6th Ed, and earned graphic design credits for Modiphius’ Robert E. Howard’s Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of and Chaosium’s RuneQuest 4th Edition.
Malcolm has run an ongoing D&D 5e campaign that has clocked over 175 episodes across six years with the same group of long-suffering but dedicated players. His current Dolmenwood campaign inspired Knights of the Wood: The Duke’s Tourney and the creation of this website.
